Dr. Dimitar P. Filev
is an Executive Technical Leader , Intelligent Controls, Ford Research & Innovation Center, Dearborn, MI. He is conducting research in modeling and control of complex systems, intelligent control, fuzzy and neural systems, and their applications to automotive engineering. He received his PhD. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Czech Technical University in Prague in 1979. Prior to joining Ford Motor Company in 1994, Dr. Filev was with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (1980-1991) and with the Machine Intelligence Institute, Iona College, New Rochelle, NY. Dr. Filev has published 4 books and over 230 articles in refereed journals and conference proceedings, and holds numerous US and foreign patents. He is the recipient of the 2008 Norbert Wiener Award of the IEEE SMC Society, the 2007 IFSA Outstanding Industrial Applications Award, and the highest Ford Motor Company awards – he was awarded 6 times with the Henry Ford Technology Award and with the 2010 Haren Gandhi Research & Innovation Award for his research contributions to intelligent control & information systems and their practical applications to Ford business. He is Co-Editor in Chief of the Int. J. on Evolving Systems. He is past president of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society (NAFIPS) and serves presently as a VP of the IEEE SMC Society and a member of the IEEE Fellow Committee. Dr. Filev is a Fellow of IEEE and IFSA.
