What is the DARPA Grand Challenge?

The purpose of the DARPA Grand Challenge is to leverage American ingenuity to accelerate the development of autonomous vehicle technologies that can be applied to military requirements. No team entry successfully completed the designated route for the 2004 Grand Challenge. A cash award of $2 million will be granted to the team that fields the first vehicle to complete the designated route of the next challenge within a specified time limit.
