Collaboration with AIST Japan

The OSU CPS Group established a research collaboration agreement with the Japanese National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology on the topic of ITS-Energy.

One of the first activities was an OSU Graduate Students, Scott Biddlestone, spending a Summer at AIST and working on the three-truck autonomous platoon, which was part of the AIST ITS-Energy program.

Subsequently Dr. Naohisa Hashimoto from AIST Japan came to spend a year at OSU working on fault-tolerant control.  Dr. Hashimoto arrived in April 2010. His stay at OSU and joint effort with CPS researchers resulted in a number of publications. The following have already appeared:
Naohisa Hashimoto, Umit Ozguner, Masashi Yokozuka, Shin Kato, Osamu Matsumoto, and Sadayuki Tsugawa, "A Framework of Fault Detection Algorithm for Intelligent Vehicle by Using Real Experimental Data", Proceedings of the 14th IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems, ITSC 2011, October 2011.
Naohisa Hashimoto, Umit Ozguner, and Neil Sawant, "Evaluation of control in a convoy scenario", Proceedings of the 2011 IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium, 5-9 June 2011, pp. 350-355.

Meetings have been held with Professor S. Tsugawa from Meijo University and Dr. S. Kato of AIST and the collaboration continues.
